Senior School

Our Senior School will prepare your daughter to take on the world

A girl who is sharp, grounded, kind, determined and confident is ready to take on any pursuit she puts her mind to. Our unique self-leadership approach gives each girl entering our Senior School endless opportunities to discover her strengths, pursue her passions and develop a love of learning.

The Senior School includes Years 7 to 12. Through our academic and co-curricular programs, girls are encouraged to achieve their personal best. The curriculum is underpinned by leading research on learning as well as the integration of information and communications technology to keep pace with global trends. Students’ developmental, emotional and social needs are carefully considered across each program.

Students gain an awareness of local and global issues and connect with the community through our service learning and social justice projects. Every day is different in the Senior School, allowing girls to flourish, experience a wide range of activities, and learn in a supportive and grounded community.

Academic Life - High School

Years 7 to 10

From Years 7 to 10, the courses are based on the West Australian Curriculum. Alongside this, Perth College has its own program for Beliefs and Values, as well as our unique InsideOut self-leadership program.

Years 11 and 12

In Years 11 and 12, the curriculum is developed in line with the requirements of the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). Our Year 12s are regularly among the highest performing students in the State, across a range of courses.

STEaM at Perth College

We have a strong focus on STEaM initiatives at Perth College. Our programs equip girls with the skills for high-tech future jobs and assist them with their further education. While STEM education traditionally stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, Perth College added a small ‘a’ for arts to represent the creative and critical thinking skills students will need in the future.

Student Exchange Program

We offer various exchange opportunities in our Senior School at Perth College. Boarders and day girls may apply for annual exchanges to The Study in Montreal, Canada, Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar in Melbourne and Ruyton Girls’ School in Melbourne.

Co-curricular

Our Perth College co-curricular program offers many opportunities for girls to pursue specialist interests across sport, technology, performing arts, and community service.

Sport

Perth College is part of the IGSSA (Independent Girls’ Schools’ Sports Association) competition, with students selected on merit, House carnival results or trials to take part in weekly sporting fixtures throughout the year. Sports in the IGSSA calendar include swimming, tennis, volleyball, cross country, netball, hockey, rowing, soccer, basketball, athletics, water polo and netball.

Perth College also caters for the physical wellbeing of its students with a range of options available outside of the IGSSA competition. The Sports Development and Performance Program was launched in 2022, as a foundational program that aims to engage, nurture and accelerate student participation within school and community sports environments. The program is designed to be inclusive for all students, catering for a variety of sporting abilities and ages whilst promoting a holistic outlook towards personal growth and team-based values. More information about this program can be found here.

Music

Students who love music can participate in choirs, concert bands, orchestras, jazz bands, chamber groups, solo performances and music theatre. Perth College Music is an inclusive program and caters for all talents and styles. Our musical partnerships with Aquinas College, WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and Westminster Abbey also provide students with a richer experience. Interstate and overseas tours take place regularly and provide a fantastic learning opportunity for students, staff and parents. One such tour is the biennial Sisters of the Church Music Festival which celebrates the common heritage shared between Perth College and five other schools throughout Australia and New Zealand

Students are taught by highly qualified instrumental and vocal teachers, many of whom are either current or past members of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra or Perth Symphony Orchestra or are professional musicians outside of the School environment. Perth College Music Staff enjoy strong links with both UWA and WAAPA and are able to provide meaningful guidance to students assessing their tertiary options.

Performing Arts

Our co-curricular Dance/Drama program is open to all students in Years 7 to 12, regardless of whether they are studying a subject in these course areas. The girls can become involved in performing arts programs such as major annual dance, drama and music productions, either on stage or behind the scenes, assisting with costumes, make-up, technical production and ushering. We are home to ‘PC Dance’, a program hosted on Saturday mornings for girls and boys aged 4 to 14.

Senior School Clubs

We offer a range of clubs for students in Years 7 to 12 before and after school, as well as during lunchtimes. Options include equestrian, photography, debating, community service, and more.

Camps And Adventure Learning

Years 7 to 10 have an annual camp where the girls immerse themselves in a bush setting and learn important life skills such as teamwork, ingenuity, meal planning and leadership. The Year 9 and 10 camps are much longer than typical school camps, creating a lightbulb moment where the girls challenge themselves, needing to work collaboratively and draw on each other’s strengths.

Service Learning

Perth College has always encouraged its students to give back to the community and make a difference in the lives of others.

Our girls assist at the Church and with community events such as the annual Lifeline luncheon, Anglicare winter and Christmas appeals, and the Hyde Park Fair. Our Student Representative Council also helps to generate funds and raise awareness for charities via school and community-based events.

Our Perth private school offers a range of social justice programs for Senior School Girls, from experiential learning opportunities in the Solomon Islands or Cambodia working with those less fortunate, to helping in the local community.

Beliefs and Values

We believe in helping our girls make decisions in life with care, courage and confidence. Our Beliefs and Values department works hard to encourage our girls to develop their own spirituality through a range of challenging and enlightening programs tailored to each year level.

In the Senior School, we focus on global Anglicanism, faith and spirituality. Students in Years 7–10 participate in subjects including Bible Studies, Philosophy, Social Justice and Spirituality, while Year 11 students study Philosophy and Ethics 2A. Year 12 students have the opportunity to further undertake Philosophy and Ethics 3A/3B.
