Year 7 student, Eilidh, is warming up her vocal cords after successfully auditioning for the West Australian Opera's upcoming season of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci (Cav & Pag).

Eilidh was one of just 12 students across all of WA to be selected into the Children's Chorus.

The audition was only her second ever, after she tried out for and was cast in the role of Mary Poppins in last year's Junior School Musical.

"I auditioned for it because I love singing and I just wanted to have a go and see if I could get in," Eilidh said.

"The audition was a bit easier because I had done something like it before, but I wanted to do it to practice auditioning because it’s a big thing and I have to get used to it.

"I really hoped I'd get in but I didn't think I would. I was lucky and I’m really excited about it."

Cav & Pag is a classic one act pairing of operas depicting the raw, heartbreaking and beautiful complexity of everyday life. The show will be sung in Italian with English surtitles.

Eilidh will join the cast for rehearsals in June, ahead of the performances from July 17 to 24 at His Majesty's Theatre.

She said she was looking forward to learning the songs and the ins and outs of being part of the WA Opera.

"There will be a lot of practicing, but I'm really excited because I’ve never been in an opera before and it’s a whole new experience," Eilidh said.

"When we did the audition, the whole opera community was there and they were all really nice and friendly saying good luck so I think this will be a really enjoyable experience."

We wish you all the best, Eilidh!
