Academic Life

We help girls flourish.

From day one, we instil the idea that each and every girl can follow her passions and excel in whatever she sets her mind to.

We pay close attention to the development of girls, using a broad curriculum and activities that allow students to follow their interests. We ensure that each girl feels safe, secure and supported in her surroundings. From here, friendship circles are formed, confidence grows, and our girls develop a sense of self.

Our Visible Learning and InsideOut programmes ensure our youngest students become courageous and capable girls who move out of their comfort zones to try new things. They develop literacy and numeracy skills, as well as hands-on learning in English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Technology and Enterprise, plus Beliefs and Values.

Physical wellbeing and creativity are integral parts of the Junior School. All girls will learn an musical instrument from Year 2, with specialist lessons in Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Physical Education, and Languages (French and Mandarin). Every student from Kindergarten to Year 6 features in the annual Junior School musical, which is an opportunity few other schools provide.

All students, also including Kindergarten, learn how to solve real-world problems through creative thinking, design work, collaboration, robotics and coding. They develop a deeper understanding of how STEaM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) can be integrated and utilised to develop solutions, and their confidence is boosted as they persevere to complete fun but challenging work.

The Perth College Junior School is an inspiring, lively and exciting place for students to learn, play and grow.
