sparc at Perth College

sparc is a Perth College initiative, blending a unique, future-focused framework designed to prepare our students with the knowledge, skills, attributes and values that will see them flourish now and into the future.

There is a need for us to prepare our students for the future world, a world for which jobs have not yet been created, for technologies that have not yet been invented and to solve problems that have not yet been anticipated.

We all know that our young people are facing unprecedented social, economic and environmental challenges with an uncertain, unpredictable future. They are also dealing with accelerating globalisation, technological development and new opportunities for human advancement. As a school, we aim to equip our students with the knowledge, skills, attributes, and values that will see them flourish into the future.

Sparc is based on experiences that spark passion, grow attributes and build relationships to contribute to the world.

As sparc is unique to Perth College and a leading initiative in education, we have answered some frequently asked questions below:

What does sparc involve?

Each Perth College student will be involved in experiences that focus on Entrepreneurship, Enterprise and Careers, Leadership and Citizenship. The basis of these learning experiences are underpinned by the School’s values of Capable, Courageous and Caring and are grounded in the School’s positive education philosophy.

What is a sparc mentor?

In recognition of the experiential approach that will be taken in sparc, we have chosen staff and industry experts to be involved in the framework as mentors. Sparc mentors are role models of the values and qualities we are trying to instill in our students and they journey alongside them at each step of the way. We have a combination of staff from across multiple disciplines adding their skill and expertise to guide students through each learning experience.

What year levels participate in sparc?

All students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 10 will have dedicated sparc sessions each week with their sparc mentors.

Our students will explore themes and work through experiences relating to specific stages of development, to help gain knowledge and feel more prepared for upcoming challenges they may encounter. These themes include:

  • Pre-Kindergarten to Pre-Primary - Discovering Identity
  • Years 1 and 2 - Exploring Belonging
  • Years 3 and 4 - Building Relationships
  • Years 5 and 6 - Leading the way
  • Year 7 - Making Connections
  • Year 8 - Building Strength
  • Year 9 - Choosing Courage
  • Year 10 - Stepping Up

More details of the full range of the experiences can be found on our PC Parent Portal, SPACE. For more information, contact us via email to info@pc.wa.edu.au.
