This is a permanent position commencing midway through Term 2 2022.

Depending on the responsibilities the successful applicant can undertake, the role can be offered in a part-time capacity at 0.7 FTE, or full-time.

The Arts at Perth College encompasses Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts and Media. The Co-ordinator of Strings is part of a vibrant team providing an enriching and challenging Music program across Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12.

We seek an outstanding musician and educator to take on this role in co-ordinating the Perth College String Program. The successful candidate will encourage and teach a love of string playing in students from Year 2 to Year 12. Duties include teaching and directing the school’s six orchestras, mentoring chamber ensembles, preparation for concerts, auditions for scholarships and bursaries, co-ordinating musicians for School events, camps, tours (both national and international) and instrumental teaching. Some of these ensembles are scheduled into the timetable and some rehearse before or after school.

The Co-ordinator of Strings position requires inspired teaching pedagogy, underpinned by positive psychology and visible learning practices. The successful applicant needs to have proven knowledge of teaching multiple string instruments as well as experience in conducting ensembles. A high level of organisation with excellent attention to detail is required to oversee the program and meet the requirements of The Arts performance calendar.

Singing and aural skills based on the Kodaly methodology is at the core of our Music program. TRBWA registration with the ability to teach classroom Music in the Senior School would be considered advantageous and the capability to play piano would be highly desirable.
