Beliefs and Values
The Beliefs and Values department encourages students to develop their own spirituality through robust and intriguing programmes tailored for students in both the Junior and Senior Schools.
Staff work to ensure each girl is equipped with skills and knowledge in religion, philosophy and ethics to make capable decisions in life with care and courage. They foster the integration of theory and practice, and members of the Chaplaincy team assist to teach Beliefs and Values as well as provide liturgical and counseling services.
Teaching in the Junior School focuses on the basics of Christianity while in the Senior School, a comprehensive, sequential programme, designed to foster engagement in the minds of the students about faith and spirituality, centres on the nature of Anglicanism, spirituality and traditions around the globe. Years 7 to 10 students work across the subject areas of Bible Studies, Philosophy, Social Justice and Spirituality, within the context of Anglican beliefs.
Year 11 girls study Philosophy and Ethics 2A as a mandatory subject over the year (in lieu of studying Beliefs and Values). Students are given the option to study Philosophy and Ethics 2A/2B as an elective subject and would study it over a 12-month period. The course includes in-depth critical thinking, mind and body, societal ethics and aesthetics. A student opting to study this course will not undertake the mandatory 2A course as all content in the 2A course will be covered in the 2A/2B course. Students who have successfully studied Philosophy and Ethics 2A/2B have the opportunity to complete a new Philosophy and Ethics 3A/3B course in Year 12. Those students who studied Philosophy and Ethics 2A will study a Beliefs and Values course for final-year students, which prepares the girls to embark on the next phase of their lives.
